Proposed Storm Shutter Ordinance Discussion Continues

The proposed storm shutter ordinance will be up for discussion at 9:00 a.m. on March 23, 2022, at the Committee of the Whole meeting in Council Chambers. Staff will present information to Council on the topic.

Proper storm shutters are effective and recommended to reduce some risks during a storm. However, storm shutters can increase some risks, especially when there is no storm threat.

On March 9, 2022, at the Committee of the Whole (COW) Meeting, Council discussed a proposed storm shutter ordinance and provided staff direction on revisions.

Many other cities in Florida have adopted similar Ordinances. The purpose of this Ordinance is to improve life safety and community values.
