Parks & Recreation Celebrates July as "National Park and Recreation Month"

Parks are essential public infrastructure and one of the few places where it all comes together – good health, a sense of community, respect for nature, and ties to our past and future. Now, more than ever, parks and recreational activities are essential to maintaining our health and well-being. In recognition of all the positive benefits that start in parks, the Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Department is proud to join other municipalities across the state and nation in celebrating July as “National Park and Recreation Month.”

This year's national theme is "We are Parks & Recreation." From programming classes and events to keeping our parks clean or overseeing special projects, employees are the backbone of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation. As part of the month-long celebration, a collaborative art display highlighting the department’s employees will be on display in City Hall throughout the month of July. Additionally, there will be a variety of “Family Golf Month” specials offered at Coral Oaks Golf Course all month long, and Cape Coral's Parks and Recreation's various divisions are planning to offer special activities with current CDC guidelines and recommendations in place.

The special activities planned during July reflect the "four pillars" that Parks & Recreation provides the community including: Economic Development, Health/Wellness, Sense of Community & Environmental Sustainability. Activities being planned for the month include an Ice Cream Social at Lake Kennedy Center from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 (CANCELED) and a Scooter Contest and Demo at Eagle Skate Park on July 11 from 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. To learn more about offerings at Four Freedoms Park, they are hosting an Open House from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 with games, crafts, and giveaways, including a roundtrip ticket on the Key West Express. In addition, Rotary Park is hosting a Summer Native Plant Sale on Saturday, July 25 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Cape Coral Fun Mobile will be out and about throughout the month of July with special “prize patrol” days, where recreation staff will be handing out Parks & Recreation swag.
