Cape Coral Parks and Rec Launches New Home Recreation Web Pages

Screen shot of home rec section of websiteThe City of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce the launch of a new “Virtual/Home Recreation” area within the Parks and Recreation section of the City's website. The new section is divided into five special interest categories including Arts, Fitness, Nature, Puzzles/Games, and Youth/Family. Content includes a variety of recreational activities that people can do at home or in their own neighborhood while practicing safe social distancing. Those who participate in virtual activities are being encouraged to share photos using the hashtag #CCVirtualRec.

When developing the new web pages, recreation programming staff made it a point to include some content that would be appropriate for all ages. Items range from preschool and youth learning videos to coloring sheets of Cape Coral parks, art projects for youth and adults, fitness videos, word/photo puzzles and much more. Additionally, nature lovers of all ages can learn about Cape Coral's most common birds, butterflies and flowers by reviewing the photo charts and links within the nature section.

“Although the recreation centers are currently closed, staff have been busy developing fun and safe alternatives the public can try at home,” said Parks and Recreation Director Kerry Runyon. “We’re pleased with how quickly the effort came together and hope people in the community will take advantage of this resource to find out about new ways they can engage in recreation at home.”

While the new web pages were developed to help fill a void, the department plans to continue to keep them live, and add new content, even after Cape Coral's parks and recreation centers reopen. This will be a new resource the community can use to supplement their normal recreation routines.
