Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife Announces "Name the Ground-Owl" Contest

The Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife (CCFW) organization invites the community to participate in its “Name the Ground-Owl” contest, which runs through January 20. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners.

Prizes include CCFW family memberships, tickets to the Burrowing Owl Festival and more. To enter the contest, participants should send an email with their name, telephone number and owl name ideas to NameThatOwl@gmail.com. The owl name that is selected among the entries will be the new mascot of the “Ground-Owl Day” event.

Cape Coral's inaugural “Ground-Owl Day” ceremony is set for Saturday, February 2 at 9 a.m. The event will be hosted by CCFW and Cape Coral Parks and Recreation at the Rotary Community Garden, which is located on the north side of City Hall. Contest winners will be announced at the event, which will also feature a proclamation and light refreshments. Everyone will be hoping that the new mascot will see his shadow so we can enjoy six more weeks of “winter weather” in Cape Coral.
