Rotary Community Garden Dedication Scheduled for September 29

After extensive planning and support from several local businesses and community partners, the Rotary Clubs of Cape Coral are ready to officially open the Rotary Community Garden and dedicate it to the citizens of Cape Coral. A public dedication ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 29 at 12:00 p.m. at the Rotary Community Garden, located at the corner of Cultural Park Boulevard and Southeast 10th Street, just north of Cape Coral City Hall. The dedication ceremony is open to the public and a light lunch will be served after.

The Rotary Community Garden is home to 52 individual garden beds, including 5 handicap-accessible garden beds, which are available for the public to lease annually from October 1-September 30 on a first come, first serve basis. The Garden includes a drip irrigation system, compost and mulch bins, a storage container with gardening tools for community use, a pollinator garden, and a Tiki Hut with shaded seating for occasional gardening classes to be held. After Saturday's dedication, the City of Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Department will officially take over maintenance of the Garden and will manage all garden bed rentals.

“We’re thankful to the Rotary Clubs of Cape Coral for their ongoing support and generous gift to the community,” said Kerry Runyon, Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Director. “The Rotary Community Garden offers new opportunities for citizens to learn about gardening and the importance of sustainability.”

During the first year, garden plots at the new Rotary Community Garden will be available to lease for $100 each.
