Healthy Living

Cape Coral is a hotbed of recreational opportunities that bring many to live, work and vacation here. Boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, biking, parks, sports and activity centers, golf, tennis, nature preserves, sunset cruises and dedicated water, skate and BMX parks all are part of the city’s active lifestyle options. Young and old alike have no limit to their choices.

Ecotourism

Ecological wonders also make ecotourism opportunities endless in Cape Coral. There are 400 miles of fresh and saltwater canals through the peninsular city, which is bordered to the south and east by the Caloosahatchee River and to the west by Matlacha Pass. Southwest Florida’s many mangrove habitats are ideal for fishing and birding, as well as opportunities to see dolphins, manatees and other wildlife.

A few of the best adventures can be found at:

  • Rotary Park & Environmental Center – a 97-acre venue on “The Great Florida Birding Trail” and home base of the city’s environmental recreation programs;
  • Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve – a 365-acre park that features a walking trail and boardwalk, seasonal kayak rentals, visitors center and Veterans Memorial area;
  • Sirenia Vista Park – a great venue to spot manatees in cooler months, as well as to fish or launch by canoe, kayak or standup paddleboard to the 190-mile Great Calusa Blueway.

Teams, Leagues and Events

Cape Coral runs an array of youth and adult sports teams and programs. It also is home to many special events throughout the year produced by the city Parks and Recreation Department and in cooperation with community partners.

Improvements and Expansion
To enhance the city’s many recreational options, voters recently approved $60 million in expansions and improvements. The first phase, funded through a 15-year bond, is expected to begin in 2020.

An environmental park, several community parks and seven neighborhood parks will be created. Improvements also will be made to 39 existing facilities. This includes new or enhanced playground equipment, shade structures, pavilions, WiFi, parking, lighting, landscaping and restrooms.
