Contractors for seven of the 13 construction contracts were issued their Notice to Proceed in mid to late October and are now in progress with pre-construction activities. Pre-construction activities include submitting bonds and insurance, applying for various permits, and acquiring the materials for the work. Before the materials are acquired, the contractors submit shop drawings and the City reviews them for conformance with the contract documents. After the City reviews and approves the submittals, contractors submit quotes from material suppliers and the City purchases the materials directly from the suppliers. This saves the City the 6% state sales tax, and these savings are passed along to the property owners in the assessment. After the materials are delivered, the contractors will begin mobilizing equipment and crews to begin construction activities.
In the meantime, the City has been updating protected species data and will be relocating gopher tortoises and removing burrowing owl nests out of designated construction areas in accordance with our wildlife permits. Please check the color maps on our North 2 Construction Schedules page to see when construction activities are scheduled for your neighborhood. Questions related to the project can be submitted through the Contact Us page. Also, a 24-hour hotline (833-CAPEUEP) is now available for reporting of construction-related emergencies.
