8th Annual Special Populations Golf Classic a Huge Success!

Special Pops Golf TournThe 8th Annual Special Populations Golf Classic was held on Saturday, November 1 at Palmetto Pine Country Club and was a huge success. What made it such a great accomplishment was a combination of factors - community, community, community, and some more community! Many community partners sponsored the tournament, community golfers gave up their day and donated money, community businesses donated raffle prizes, and the community Guardian Angels for Special Populations volunteered their time for months planning the tournament and of course volunteering the day of the event.

For the third year, the Cape Coral Local #2424 Professional Firefighters Union, through their “Get Tagged” program, sponsored the tournament.  We are so proud that our fellow co-workers think highly of the programs we offer for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Other large sponsors included Tony Wilson, Ivan Gorr, Smith family, Kiwanis Club of Cape Coral, and Knights of Columbus, Council #7131. The Birdie sponsors included Mary McDaniel, Cornerstone Builders, in memory of Bernie Quartapella, and John Deere Landscapes. Par sponsors included the Smith family, Dr. Christy Swanson, Community Resource Network, Affordable Marble & Granite of FL, Inc., Cape Dental Care, Kraver, Inc., Drobnic Chiropractic and Bank of America.   Many others sponsored holes and bogies. We want to thank everyone for their part in this spectacular endeavor. The net proceeds have exceeded $30,000.

The Guardian Angels for Special Populations would love to have you join their efforts as they will be hosting other fundraisers in 2015 including the Snowman Shuffle Fun Walk and Doggie Stroll (Super Heroes theme), Rock ‘n Roll Dance and Fashion Show Luncheon.  Volunteer opportunities are also available at our Special Populations facility, the Freida B. Smith Center. For more information, call 239 574-0574 or click here.
