The Public Affairs Office oversees the public information efforts of the city. The office handles media relations for all City departments except for Police and Fire but works closely with both department PIOs. The Public Affairs Manager serves as the official spokesperson of the CIty and is a member of the Command Staff for emergency events. The office produces the City's popular quarterly community newsletter, On The Move, conducts the biennial Citizen Survey, oversees the operation of the City's cable channel, CapeTV, and supervises the production and broadcast of live meetings in City Council Chambers.
The Public Affairs Office is responsible for monitoring the City's website and providing support, along with the IT Department, to department staff to keep the information on the website updated. The office is responsible for the City's main Facebook page, Twitter account and the CapePIO YouTube Channel. The office also uses available social media outlets and looks for any opportunities to improve the lines of communication with the public. That includes online chats, Ping4Alerts!, Ustream video channel and others.
