Workforce in Cape Coral

Cape Coral is the most populous city between Tampa and Miami. Businesses can choose from an educated workforce of nearly 500,000 in the tri-county area of Lee, Charlotte, and Collier Counties.  By the year 2015, the population of working age, between 20 and 64 years, is expected to grow to more than 56% of the total population. 

The beautiful tropical environment and low cost of living contributes to an educated work force attraction. New residents are attracted by an outstanding quality of life and dynamic educational and job opportunities.

Growth in the Southwest Florida workforce has been attributed to the rapid growth in population over the past thirty years, with Lee County as the largest county experiencing some of the highest growth. More recently, the number of younger families and individuals coming to the area looking for the Florida lifestyle has continued to increase.

More than 63 percent of the population is between the ages of 15-64 and residents under 25 outnumber residents over 65. Cape Coral’s 18 to 24-year old population, those available to enter the workforce, is projected to grow twice as fast as the Florida workforce average and many times faster than the U.S. population in general. The rapid population growth and available underemployed labor force provide businesses with new employment candidates every day. A majority, almost 60%, of the Cape Coral workforce, is employed in largely white-collar occupations, such as management, professional sales and administrative support. By contrast, only 40% of the workforce is employed in blue-collar occupations, including construction, maintenance and transportation. The service industry is Cape Coral’s top job segment.
