Cape Coral Now Second Largest Florida City
By Land Mass

Cape Coral City officials who were doing research on the Internet recently discovered that Cape Coral has more land than Tampa and is now the second largest city in the state by land area, said Christy Vogt, the City's economic development coordinator.

After double checking with Tampa officials, it was verified that Tampa has 116 square miles, four square miles less than Cape Coral's 120 square miles. That bumped Tampa down to the third position. Cape Coral became the state's second largest city in terms of land area because of annexations, mainly the Zemel property, made by the City Council in 2010.
