Florida Workforce Development Resources

Cape Coral offers a host of employee training, business counseling and workforce development opportunities through several providers, such as the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) staffed by Florida Gulf Coast University, Business Industry Services, and the Career and Services Center of SW Florida. Career and Service Center of Lee County
The Florida Agency of Workforce Innovation oversees One Stop Centers that implement state employee workforce development programs, match employees with employers (Employers Service Center), and recruit trained and qualified workers for high-tech and other short-staffed programs.

Southwest Florida Works, our local one-stop center, helps employers in the community find employees with the appropriate training, skills and motivation. Employers are also provided hiring information, job postings that can be processed within one business day, and local area statistics. Also available are onsite executive facilities and employer incentive programs.

Job Seekers are provided with job search assistance, employment development workshops, employment counseling, skills training, resume writing, job matching and assistance filing for temporary public assistance or unemployment benefits.

Small Business Development Center

Florida Gulf Coast University and the City of Cape Coral have teamed up to provide business counseling.The Small Business Development Center is dedicated to providing free, confidential business counseling. Their services include one-on-one counseling as well as educational workshops geared to provide businesses with all the information they need to conduct a successful business.  The SBDC is just one part of the Center of Leadership and Innovation, operated by Florida Gulf Coast University's Lutgert College of Business and the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Cape Coral satellite office, across Cultural Park Blvd from City Hall, is staffed during business hours. Services of the Small Business Development Center also support the activities of the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Business and Industry Services (BIS)
This agency is part of the Lee County School District. It works with employers in Southwest Florida to provide economical employee training programs.

BIS meets with the employer and designs individualized training programs for the specific needs of the business. The training is either at the employer's site or one of the BIS training sites. Training schedules are flexible to accommodate work schedules.
