VA Healthcare Center an Anchor for the VIZ

The Veterans Investment Zone (VIZ) is one of Cape Coral’s newest economic development initiatives. VIZ logo tinyThe VIZ encompasses the area surrounding the new multidisciplinary primary and specialty care Cape Coral - Lee County Veterans Affairs Healthcare Center in northeast Cape Coral.

Cape Coral, Fla. (October 4, 2013) – Less than a year after opening, the Lee County VA Healthcare Center has exceeded initial projections for continual growth. The comprehensive outpatient clinic for military veterans is the major anchor for the Cape Coral Veterans Investment Zone (VIZ), designed to attract a range of compatible businesses to the northeast Cape Coral zone.

Already, the healthcare center employs a staff of 450 and provides services to approximately 1,000 veterans each day. Hiring has outpaced projections from the time of the center’s December 2012 opening. Daily patient numbers are approximately 30% higher than previously estimated. In addition to a robust start for the 220,000-square-foot VA Healthcare Center located at Diplomat Parkway and Corbett Road, the nearby 15-acre Cape Coral Army Reserve Center is expected to be complete this fall.

The VA Healthcare Center is the heart of the VIZ — a vibrant village for the community, patients, staff and visitors. The goal of the Cape Coral VIZ is to develop a campus of symbiotic businesses in an array of compatible fields and industries, including medical clinics and offices, wellness providers, hotel and retail, pharmacy, life science facilities, entertainment, data processing and green industries. The City of Cape Coral approved zoning changes so site opportunities include corridor, commercial, industrial and mixed-use development. The Cape Coral Economic Development Office has also provided three public forums for interested business owners and investors to spread the word about the investment zone’s rich potential.
