2017 ELECTION NEWS

Mayor and Districts 1, 4, 6

The City of Cape Coral will be holding Primary and General Elections in 2017.  The Primary Election will be held September 12, 2017.  The General Election will be held November 7, 2017.  City voters will elect a Mayor and Council Members for Council Districts 1, 4, and 6.  This is a non-partisan election.

WHO CAN BE A CANDIDATE? 
MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS ARE NONPARTISAN.  In order to become a candidate for a City of Cape Coral Council seat, a person must have been a continuous full-time resident of the City for the entire calendar year immediately preceding his or her qualification for office. (City Charter Sections 4.02, 4.03, 4.04, 4.05, 4.10)

WHEN DO I ANNOUNCE MY CANDIDACY?
A candidate may announce his/her candidacy at any time.  However, prior to accepting ANY contribution, or making ANY expenditure, the Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository must be filed with the City Clerk’s Office.  Pursuant to the Campaign Financing Laws of Florida, F.S. 106.21(1)(a)

WHEN CAN I BEGIN?
A candidate may open his/her campaign file with the City Clerk’s Office ANYTIME PRIOR to the qualifying period, however, certain documents pertaining to a candidate’s campaign can only be finalized and submitted to a candidate’s file during the qualifying period. 

WHEN IS THE QUALIFYING PERIOD?
Qualifying begins at 7:30 am on Monday, July 3, 2017 and ends 1:00 pm on Friday, July 7, 2017 (excluding July 4th).  Qualifying is completed in the Office of the City Clerk, 1015 Cultural Park Boulevard, Cape Coral, Florida. 

WHERE DO I FILE MY QUALIFYING PAPERS?
Qualifying documents MUST BE FILED at the Office of the City Clerk, 1015 Cultural Park Boulevard, 1st Floor, Cape Coral, Florida.  In order to qualify by mail, arrangements must be made with the City Clerk to insure that a candidate has all necessary documents and that these documents are returned prior to the end of the qualifying period.
