The City of Cape Coral continues to support Special Populations in providing quality programs for persons with developmental disabilities. Special Populations offers opportunities for education, exposure and experience in a safe, caring environment. However, due to significant budget reductions and cuts in state funding, Special Populations has endured financial hardship over the past several years.  With the support from community partnerships and the fundraising efforts of the Guardian Angels for Special Populations, our non-profit, 501(c) (3) support group, Special Populations is able to continue to make a difference in the lives of the individuals who attend our program.

Since 1996, more than $200,000 has been raised by the Guardian Angels through grant acquisitions and community fundraisers. These funds assisted with vehicle purchases, building renovations, program fee scholarships for families with economic limitations, staff salaries, equipment, appliances, adaptive computer and augmentative communication equipment and software, woodworking tools, janitorial and office supplies, craft and related job supplies, as well as holiday gifts for participants. New members and volunteers are welcomed and needed at a variety of planned fundraisers. Consider joining this dedicated organization in its continuing effort to support the deserving participants at the Freida B. Smith Special Populations Center and Pops Café.  Their next major fundraiser is:
