Tip from the Pro
CLUB SELECTION
When on the golf course, we are faced with what club to select for our shot. Club selection is influenced by three things: pin placement, wind and elevation.
Pin Placement: Yardages are measured from the yardage marker to the center of the green. If the flag is in the back of the green, add about ten yards to your yardage. If the flag is on the front of the green, deduct about ten yards from your yardage.
Wind: There is no accurate way to explain how hard the wind is blowing. This skill only comes from experience and judgment. If the wind is at your back, you can take a more lofted club for less distance. If the wind is in your face, you should take a less lofted club for more distance. There are times that you might have a two or even a three club wind. Again, with experience you will be able to adjust to different wind speeds.
Elevation: Florida is a rather flat state but all golf courses will have elevation changes. When going uphill, you will need a less lofted club for more distance. When going downhill, you will need a more lofted club for less distance. Again, experience will help to determine these adjustments
Your round of golf will be more enjoyable, and your chances of getting on the green or even closer to the flag will increase if you remember to incorporate these thoughts into your pre-shot routine. Try this, and if you need additional help, give us a call for private instruction or to participate in one of our golf schools or clinics.
