CodeRED

Code RedThe City of Cape Coral has contracted with Emergency Communications Network, Inc., of Ormond Beach, Florida, for its "CodeRED" high-speed telephone emergency notification services.

The CodeRED system gives City officials the ability to deliver pre-recorded emergency telephone notification/information messages to targeted areas or the entire city at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour. Click the CodeRed logo above to put your phone number in the database.

"This system provides an opportunity for residents and business owners to be notified in the event that an emergency situation exists that impacts them or their area," said Bill Van Helden, Cape Coral’s Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director. "It also provides another valuable communications tool for emergency management agencies."

The CodeRED system not only offers faster calling rates and improved message delivery, it gives individuals and businesses the ability to add their own phone numbers directly to the system's telephone database. If your phone number is not in the database, you will not be called.

To ensure no one is omitted, Van Helden urges all individuals and businesses to click on the link in the opening paragraph and go to the "CodeRED Residential and Business Data Collection" page. Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, ZIP code, and primary phone number. Additional phone numbers are optional.

People who may not have Internet access can call the Emergency Management Office at 239-242-3901 with the required information in the previous paragraph, and they will be added to the database

In the event an emergency notification is sent out, residents and businesses owners with caller I.D. should be aware that the phone number will appear as 1-999-911-9999. Please answer the call as it will be an emergency notification from the City of Cape Coral.

No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included. All businesses should register. Also, individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, have changed their phone number or address within the past year, and/or use a cellular phone as their primary home phone should register.

The "CodeRED" system is a geographical-based notification system, which means street addresses are needed to select which phone numbers will receive emergency notification calls in any given situation. The system also works for cell phones; however, street addresses are required.

"The information supplied only will be used for emergency notification purposes," said Van Helden. "The CodeRED web page provides an easy and secure method for providing the information to emergency workers."

Again, to access the CodeRED site and enter your contact information, click the CodeRed logo at the top of this page. Questions about the CodeRED service can be directed to the Cape Coral Emergency Management Office at 239-242-3901.
