Permitting Application Submittal
  • Building permit applications are available online at www.capegov.org (eCape). Please call 239-574-0546 for general permitting questions or to receive copies of permitting procedures and or fee schedules. Describe the subject you would like to receive information about and leave your name, address including ZIP code, telephone number, email address and your fax number, as applicable.
  • If you have questions regarding submission guidelines for commercial projects, residential and commercial addition/remodels, please contact our Plan Review Consultant at 239-574-0579. First time contractors in city, owner/builder and contractors with addition/remodel projects are encouraged to request a no-cost, pre-advisory session.
  • Thoroughly check your application and other submittal documents. Incomplete and or incorrect information will delay processing (e.g. incorrect site address, NOC’s that do not reflect the description of improvements, etc.). No whiteout is acceptable on any notarized documents.
  • Ensure that your permit number is reflected on all supplemental document(s) submitted.
Inspections
  • If you wish to schedule an appointment with an inspector you must sign the “Inspector Log” in the permitting service area prior to 7:15 a.m. The inspector will meet with you between 7:15 and 7:30 a.m.
  • Schedule new inspections and get inspection results and plan review status updates through the automated building inspection system. If the system is not in service, please contact the Inspector Representative/Coordinator at 239-574-0607 or a Permitting Technician at 239-574-0546. Please call 239-574-0546 for step-by-step guidelines. You must provide your permit number when obtaining information.
General Information
  • “Authorized signer list” must be current, and you should have your permit number available when picking up your permit.
  • Expired licensing information will delay issuance of your permit (e.g. insurance, worker’s compensation insurance, etc.).
  • Certificate of Occupancy inspections must be faxed in by 1 p.m. to 573-3166 to be performed the next day. It is not necessary to speak directly with the CO clerk; you may leave a detailed message at 239-574-0606. CO’s will be ready for pickup after noon the day following the inspection, and only after all fees have been paid.
  • If you are rebuilding on an existing lot, your demolition permit must have its final inspection prior to issuance of the new construction permit.
  • All permit applications expire six (6) months after submittal provided an extension is requested in writing and justifiable cause is demonstrated.
  • Lunch hours for the Permitting staff are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Expect delays in service during this period.
  • If contacted by the Building Division, please note the section and person to whom you spoke.
  • Please limit the use of cell phones when working with staff.
  • We continue to seek and implement process improvements to enhance our ability to serve you!
