Public Works

The Public Works Department is a diverse group of divisions that are primarily responsible for maintenance, operations, acquisition, and engineering support for Cape Coral’s infrastructure (to include: roads, canals, treatment plants, utility distribution and collection lines, wells, stormwater systems, etc.) facilities management, real estate services, fleet maintenance, and warehouse inventory control.

 

Mission

 

To provide high quality standards of service in an efficient and timely manner in order to satisfy the needs of the citizens within Cape Coral and offer assistance to management and other departments throughout the City.

Administration: Provides support and high quality standards of service in an efficient and timely manner, in order to satisfy the needs of the citizens within the City of Cape Coral and offer assistance to management and other departments throughout the City.

Environmental Resources: Monitors the terrestrial and aquatic environments; provides environmental guidance for sustainable and responsible development through cooperative education, habitat enhancement and other interdependent people/nature processes.

 

Project Planning & Construction: Provides project management, quality assurance, facilities management, and contract management services for a broad spectrum of municipal improvement projects.

 

Services: Responsible for the maintenance of unimproved medians, road shoulders, bridge repairs, pothole repairs, removal of exotic plants, stormwater management maintenance to include catch basin repair, canal dredging, street sweeping, swale reconstruction, new sidewalk construction and repair, and drainpipe replacement and improvements.

 

Transportation: Provides design, survey, traffic operations, and traffic engineering services. It strives for the maintenance and enhancement of the City’s roadway network.

 

Fleet: Monitors all phases of the fleet operation. Maintains all inventory of City vehicles and equipment. Repair and maintains all vehicles. Provide specifications and assists in the acquisition and disposition of equipment. Maintains and controls the City’s fueling operation.

 

Warehouse: Provides a secured storage for the City’s inventory of utility items, tires, oils, lubes, and other construction materials. Track costs and usage and assures that all inventory items are on hand.

 

Real Estate: Provides professional real estate services to other divisions and departments whenever the City needs to acquire land or easements for City Business. The Real Estate Division also sells land that has been declared by Ordinance as surplus.

 

Surface Water Management: Provides plan review and inspection services to ensure proper flow of stormwater runoff, prevent ponding, and to provide that necessary drainage is established.

 

Utilities: Provides engineering, project management, and long term planning support services to the Utility Division. Operations is responsible for producing drinking water and treating wastewater in compliance with all Federal and State requirements, maintenance of distribution and collection systems for potable water, wastewater, and irrigation water.

 

Utilities Extension: Oversees the design and construction of the Utility System Infrastructure.
