On November 9, 2010, the Cape Coral Economic Development Office hosted the first public forum to offer information and invite participation regarding business and investment opportunities in what’s being called the Veterans Investment Zone (VIZ), surrounding the new Cape Coral VA Medical Clinic.

The EDO invited all stakeholders interested in the economic development of this area: developers, realtors, property owners in the VIZ, business owners, community organizations, veterans, local veterans’ organizations, and the general public to The Resort at Marina Village.

Cape Coral-Lee County VA Outpatient Clinic -

A Powerful Anchor for Economic Development

The new 200,000 square feet multi-disciplinary specialty care and outpatient clinic will be a comprehensive healthcare center designed to accommodate the changing needs of veterans in the region.  The clinic will be a state-of-the-art primary and specialty care center also offering mental health, diagnostic radiology, and laboratory services.  New or expanded programs will include:  audiology, cardiology with cardiac non-invasive diagnostic services, urology, GI, orthopedics, ophthalmology, dermatology, minor surgery, and advanced imaging including CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography and vascular Doppler ultrasound.

Once constructed, VA will have a greater capacity to provide healthcare to a population of over 202,000 veterans in Southwest Florida.

SBA’s Office of Veterans Business Development

To ensure that veterans, service disabled veterans and Reserve and National Guard member entrepreneurs receive special consideration in all its entrepreneurial programs and resources, the SBA has established an Office of Veterans Business Development (OVBD). OVBD develops and distributes informational materials for entrepreneurship such as the Veterans Business Resource Guide, VETGazette, and Getting Veterans Back to Work.

SBA’s Office of Veterans Business Development is responsible for liaison with the Veterans business community; for policy analysis and reporting; for acting as an Ombudsman for Veterans in Small Business Administration programs, for providing business training, counseling and assistance, and for overseeing the Federal procurement programs for Veteran and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned small businesses.

Florida Veterans Business Outreach Center

Veterans Business Outreach Center

The Florida Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) provides online and face to face entrepreneurial development services for veterans and reservists such as business training, counseling and mentoring, pre-business plan workshops, feasibility analysis, and referrals to additional small business resources. OVBO also partners with the Entrepreneurship Boot Camp for Veterans With Disabilities at Florida State University to prepare service-disabled veterans for business ownership.
